The Gardnerville Ranchos area can trace its heritage back to 1879 when L. Gilman bought a house and actually had it moved to a seven-acre piece of land right on the Carson River’s east fork. The original location of Gilman’s home was very near where the J.T. Basque Bar/Restaurant is today. The community was named after a Gilman buddy, John Gardner. It quickly grew into an agricultural center serving the hay and grain producers in this area of the Valley.
